Those are the questions at the heart of Sarah Broome’s approach to home.
Sarah is drawn to the possibility in existing houses: a kitchen that could work better, a neglected ranch, a bungalow that needs care, or a cottage ready for its next chapter. The interest is not in making every home look new. It is in understanding what is already there and seeing what it could become.
For Sarah, luxury is less about how expensive a room looks and more about how it supports the person living in it. Organization that makes a morning less rushed. Warm layers that make a space inviting. Art that gives someone something to enjoy. Comfort and usefulness belong in the conversation alongside beauty.
The starting point is not a prescribed style. A family heirloom, a favorite painting, an antique or the character of the house itself may help shape the direction. New and custom pieces can belong just as naturally. What matters is not whether everything matches, but whether the choices make sense together—and for the people who will live with them.
Keeping what matters does not mean keeping everything. A layout may need to change. A room may need better light, a different scale of furniture or a clearer connection to the spaces around it. Proportion, flow, layered lighting and real-life function give the design its foundation. Personality gives it a reason to be different.
Sarah brings that same point of view to the design conversation. Her preference is personal and tactile: materials to handle, samples to consider and drawings or digital tools when they make an idea easier to understand. Rather than asking a client to resolve every choice at once, the aim is to guide the decisions in a manageable order, with room for questions and conversation.
The ambition is for clients to feel valued—not overwhelmed by the process of making a home their own.
That thinking extends beyond interior rooms. A porch, patio or outdoor gathering space is part of how a home is lived in, too. A substantial renovation, a furnishing project and a thoughtful refresh may call for different scopes of work, but each begins with attention to the house and the people who use it.
That is the idea behind Kept & Made: preserve what gives a home its character, thoughtfully create what comes next, and keep the life being lived there at the center.
